Sewing Pattern Designer & Instruction Creator

We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Sewing Pattern Designer & Instruction Creator to help bring new projects to life and improve our existing patterns.

This is an ongoing freelance position with flexible hours and project-based work.

ResponsibilitiesPattern Development

  • Create simple sewing patterns from sketches, concepts, or reference samples.
  • Draft pattern pieces with seam allowances and markings.
  • Test and refine patterns for accurate construction and fit.
  • Prepare pattern files in digital format.

Instruction Writing

  • Write clear, easy-to-follow, step-by-step sewing instructions.
  • Create instructions for both new projects and existing patterns.
  • Ensure instructions are beginner-friendly and consistent in style.
  • Recommend improvements to construction methods when needed.

Illustrations

  • Create simple technical illustrations or diagrams showing each step.
  • Illustrate pattern pieces and construction details.
  • Maintain a clean and consistent visual style.

Sample Sewing

  • Sew prototypes when necessary to verify construction steps and pattern accuracy.
  • Identify and correct issues before publication.

QualificationsRequired

  • Strong knowledge of sewing and garment construction.
  • Experience creating sewing patterns.
  • Ability to write clear and organized instructions.
  • Ability to create simple technical illustrations or diagrams.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Preferred

  • Experience creating PDF sewing patterns.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Inkscape, Canva, or pattern-making software.
  • Experience writing beginner-friendly sewing patterns.
  • Experience with children's clothing, accessories, or simple apparel projects.
  • Knowledge of grading and sizing is a plus, but not required.

What You'll Deliver

Depending on the project, deliverables may include:

  • Digital pattern pieces (PDF and/or editable files)
  • Fabric requirements and cutting information
  • Step-by-step written instructions
  • Technical illustrations for each construction step
  • Finished instruction booklet in PDF format
